The search for the best burger in the greater Frederick area was hard, but ultimately successful. After a 6 month search, I still find it shocking that even finding a good burger has proven to be a challenge. Sure, there were a couple decent burgers at a few high brow restaurants, but that’s it. Bars, food trucks, street vendors… I’m not picky… but a few places awarded the “Best Burger in Frederick” had some of the worst burgers I’ve ever eaten. It’s sad really, this town is darling, has some dynamite restaurants, but where are all the burger joints? Well, I finally found one!
That being said, A Hundred Pockets has awarded Roots 657 with the honor of The Best Burger in Frederick, and not due to lack of great competition. Roots 657 has a phenomenal burger. The establishment also has a wonderful eatery and charming market. The staff was delightful. They even have corn pudding! Anyway, let’s get back to the burger. It was extraordinary. The Roots 657 Burger, made up of two hand-pressed beef patties, American cheese, a fried egg, and bacon. All that goodness sandwiched between a buttered and toasted potato roll with all the fixings: shredded lettuce, tomato, finely sliced red onion and pickles. Mine was minus the bacon, but nothing was lacking.
I highly recommend the restaurant, not only for the burger, but their kids meals. They were both beautiful and tasty. My eldest had the Fried Chicken Strips & Hand-Cut Fries, and my 3-year-old had the Burger & Corn Pudding. They liked each other’s meals so much, they decided to split. They cafe serves beer and wine, hosts cooking classes, and the establishment is located near all the overpriced antique shopping in Lucketts only a quick 20 minute drive from Frederick! If you live in Frederick or the surrounding area, go, you’ll love it. I’m going back soon to try more from their menu! They have a Signature Six Onion Soup, salads, and a Roots 657 Chocolate Cake I am dying to try. I may even take a cooking class or two.
