Every year, my Christmas tree is decorated with imprinted ornaments. My children’s hands, feet, and toes have been pressed into many different mediums and surfaces to document their growth. Marshmallow clay, paint and paper, stamp pads, crayons, glass ornaments, round and flat… have all been used to document a moment in time. Some ornaments are a little wonky, but they are all cherished. Yet, no other “homemade” ornament brings more joy to my being than the ornaments my girls and I have created with the Fujifilm Instax Instant Camera.
The instant film camera is available most everywhere. I got mine at Urban Outfitters. Many use the camera to line their walls with a papering of images, but the best application is the ornament. Starting at the 1st of December, I leave the camera out-and-about. Taking pictures of the girls as they play and experience the holidays.
This family tradition has already brought so much joy to my family, I can’t imagine how blessed I will feel when they are all grown up. The camera comes in a few models: Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Instant Camera, and my favorite, Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 Neo Classic Camera. Any would be a wonderful gift for Christmas. Whether out with my girlfriends, family, crafting, or decorating, the camera has sparked a lot of fun and excitement.
- Take the picture.
- Date the back.
- Find a string, bow, ribbon, pipe cleaner or lace to attach to the back of the image.
- Using a hot glue gun attach the “string” to the back of the image and tie the top with a bow.
