My kids are obsessed with imagination cooking/baking and helping me in the kitchen. One of my toddler’s most frequent requests… candles. She wants to put a candle on everything or maybe every game to her needs to involve cake. She wants to put them on play-dough cakes or in a pile of uncooked rice and beans on the counter (also faux cakes).
I don’t like giving my toddler real candles to use… she has a baby sister. I’d imagine my baby would end up with a face full of wax and wicks. Even my toddler would probably decide breaking a candle into bits might be fun along the way.
My solution, make play candles out of straws and Post-its. Making the play candles is a fun activity for them too!
scissors/ pinking shears
Cut straws in-half using pinking shears.
Cut multi-colored Post-it notes into 4 square sections.
Fold Post-it in-half on the diagonal.
Unfold step 3, then fold again toward the center line creese.
Fold Post-it on center line again.
Place flame Post-it, cut outs, in the top of the straw!
